Over time, most of Shirow's manga universes have been translated into anime productions- be they movie, series, or OAV. As things go, the quality of production and how well they turned out vary greatly from project to project. Some of them, like Ghost in the Shell, have been phenomenal productions worldwide, while others turned into flops, like the original Appleseed OAV. Currently we're in something of a Shirow Renaissance, with GitS: Stand-Alone Complex, 2nd GIG, GitS: Innocence, and the Appleseed CG project. Additionally, Shirow has been called in to work on several other projects, though those have pretty much all been bad things that you should avoid.
